Kansas Herp Trip 2002

Closing thoughts...

As we had a great day Friday and overall a great trip. We spent the evening of Friday celebrating with Jill, Greg and friends of theirs. A great bunch of people. We ate great food and consumed some fine homemade brews. We got to sleep in on Saturday and prepared for the trek back home.

Having the chance to get out and go on an extended field trip like this is not only fun and exciting, but allows for a great growth of knowledge in reptiles and amphibians. You gain the ability to look at things differently and understand that what is good in one area might not be in another and vice versa. You learn patience and perseverance. You also gain new respect for the animals you look for and the habitat they are found in. It is their world and we are just lucky enough to be able to find them and get a glimpse of them in their natural beauty. If this is something you like to do, whenever you have the chance - do it. You will not regret it. If you are on vacation somewhere and you drive by a junk pile, take a look. You never know what you might find. Always respect the habitat and put things back where you find them, including debris, rock and ESPECIALLY the animals you find. They are better off where they are. They will maintain the population and allow you the opportunity to go back in years to come to find more. If you want a pet, there are a number of place you can get beautiful CAPTIVE born and raised species of all kinds. Respect the animals you like so much by leaving them where they are and taking only pictures. They will last forever.

It was great sharing this trip with everyone. Until next time - Happy Herping!!!
