Laura and I had spent the day messing around the yard and she decided she wanted to go try to see a hognose snake. Lately that hasn't been the problem that it used to be when I had a hognose jinx so we hopped in the truck to give it a shot.

The first thing that turned up was a juvenile Bullsnake (Pituophis catenifer sayi).

It was only a couple of minutes later before we had our target, an Eastern Hognose Snake (Heterodon platirhinos).

And then soon another...

A nearby site produced a large Racer (Coluber constrictor) that was nearing time to shed

Another nearby site had our third hognose of the day

One final stop held two more hognose under a single cover object.

You can see the evidence of tunneling in the sand in the photo.

It was a great little trip to an amazing spot not too far from home. I still can't get over seeing this many hognose in a single day.
